My friend Björn, an exceptional photographer, lives in Brooklyn and wanted to get out of the city and see some nature. His dog, Ella, was hankering for a bit more open space than the dog park offers. So, I invited them up to Westchester for a Woodland Walk, selecting Bald Mountain/John Hand Park. It is dog-friendly, and offers a good mix of trails and a nice pay-off in the middle of the hike on top of Bald Mountain.
It was a very nice day, with temperatures in the mid 50s. We saw a few other people with dogs, and some mountain-bikers. Ella absolutely loved running around, checking things out. I sometimes feel sorry for city dogs, that they can’t be out in the woods that often. Not that Ella has it too bad: Björn is a great dad, and treats her very well.
Though I enjoy the peace and reflection that’s afforded when being out in the woods alone, it was nice to have some company, and to be able to share one of the areas outdoor treats.
